چکیده
2 ABSTRACT A preliminary study was conducted with the message passing library PVM for the iterative solution of a two-dimensional Laplace equation. A line iterative procedure and Stone's strongly implicit solution procedure were tested in this environment as they have direct applicability to the solution of the pressure-Poisson equation. The intent of this study was not so much to study the solution of the Laplace equation as it was to establish the necessary groundwork and to understand the issues involved in parallel programming in a domain-decomposed environment for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Two machine configurations were looked at in this study, a 6 processor HP-735 cluster at NCSA and a 512 processor CM-5. There were some differences in the F77 compilers between the two machines and suitable modifications had to be made in the computer program. It was found that although the Stone's method did not parallelize as effectively as the line iterative procedure, it took much less CPU time to give a converged solution.

Turbulent Flow over Cars
In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...

This reports the study on the flow behaviour, heat transfer and contamination distribution in a room. For this purpose the 3-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, energy equation and a mass transfer equation which model the concentration of contamination have been applied. For turbulence simulation the two equation standard k- turbulence model was employed. By means of SIMPLE algorithm the...
متن کاملAixsymmetric Stagnation Point Flow of a Viscous Fluid on a Moving Cylinder with Time Dependent Axial Velocity
The unsteady viscous flow in the vicinity of an axisymmetric stagnation point of an infinite moving cylinder with time-dependent axial velocity is investigated. The impinging free stream is steady with a strain rate k. An exact solution of the Navier-Stokes equations is derived in this problem. A reduction of these equations is obtained by use of appropriate transformations. The general self-si...

In this paper, optimal distributed control of the time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations is considered. The control problem involves the minimization of a measure of the distance between the velocity field and a given target velocity field. A mixed numerical method involving a quasi-Newton algorithm, a novel calculation of the gradients and an inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes solver, to find the opt...

Effect of time dependent normal transpiration on the problem of unsteady viscous flow and heat transfer in the vicinity of an axisymmetric stagnation point of an infinite circular cylinder moving simultaneously with time-depended angular and axial velocities and with time-dependent wall temperature or wall heat flux are investigated. The impinging free stream is steady with a strain rate . A re...
